Houston’s 8th annual Korean Festival

Where Community Meets Culture – Discovery Green Park, Saturday, October 15

The Korean-American Society of Houston is hosting its 8th annual Korean Festival on Saturday, October 15th to showcase Korean culture and celebrate food, music, dance and other arts in a program that runs from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. KFest2016 will be held again at Discovery Green, Houston’s downtown cultural epicenter. This free event includes activities for all ages with an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary music and dance. Festival participants will be rallied by KRNFX (the beatbox artist aka Terry Im) and other guest appearances.

The main stage’s headliners include inspirational spoken word artist Jason Chu and singer/violinist Joe Kye. The musical line-up includes Moko Musik, Korus (kids choir), Maribel Rubio and the 512 Sound. Other main stage performers include Hwrang TaeKwonDo, Kim School of Taekwondo, Farmer’s Dance Group, Lee Yun Hwa, Kim Kuja, and Gayageum (dance and music). In the KASH Pavilion (for members, $45 tickets available online and onsite), we will have additional performances by the Houston Symphony and Rice Chamber Music.

Houston’s KFest is renowned for its celebration of traditional Korean food and fusion cuisine. Local favorite restaurants will again put on a huge spread of Korean favorites and delicacies. Classic Korean comfort food including Korean fried chicken, BBQ, desserts and pastries will be served. Be sure to purchase food tickets at the festival in order to purchase food from the vendors, including Caffe Bene and Hoodadak. These local restaurants will set up as vendors and take food tickets (not cash) at their booths. Volunteers will be stationed at the different food stalls to help guide foodies to the different vendor offerings. Bring your appetite!

The event is organized by the dedicated volunteers of the Korean-American Society of Houston (KASH), a cultural organization that promotes the arts and provides a bridge to Houston’s diverse population. A new exciting addition to the festival is the members-only KASH Pavilion. Join KASH and receive special access to special complimentary tasting menus, meet and greets with festival performers, tented-seating area, and private facilities. Membership is just $45 per person, which includes an additional $10 worth of festival food tickets! Thank you for your support.

As always, KFest features an interactive kids’ zone offering games and crafts free to all the public. This year, the festival will also offer a Hanbok Photobooth for festival guests to experience traditional Korean attire, how fitting as a highlight of the stage performance will be a Hanbok Fashion Show! The models will show off both traditional Hanbok clothing and modern styles. The fashion show is designed by Jasmine Park of The Hanbok, an artistic Korean clothier.

Join the diverse Houston community in this celebration of Korean Culture, including music, food and fashion. We want to thank all our sponsors, organizers and volunteers for their collaboration and dedication to this event.
